Academic Competitions

Students at Prince Avenue Christian School have many opportunities to participate in challenging academic competitions throughout the school year.  Often students first compete at the class or school level, and may advance to regional or national competitions.

Spelling Bees

Students in grades 1-4 compete at an area ACSI Spelling Bee each winter. Students are selected at each grade level at Prince Avenue through the use of Spelling tests and classroom Bees.

Students in grades 5-8 compete at an area ACSI Spelling Bee each winter. Students are selected at each grade level at Prince Avenue through the use of Spelling tests and Bees. The top 6-8 students in each grade level compete in the Prince Avenue Bee each December. The top 4 students from each grade in the Prince Avenue Bee advance to the ACSI Bee. The top speller at the Prince Avenue Bee represents Prince Avenue Christian School at the Regional Scripps Spelling Bee each February. Students who perform well at the ACSI Bee may advance to the ACSI Southeast Region Bee each March and top finishers at the ACSI Southeast Region Bee may advance to the ACSI National Spelling Bee each Spring in Washington DC.

Geography Bees

Students in grades 3-8 participate at an area ACSI Geography Bee each winter. In recent years this event has been hosted at PABC by PACS. Students compete in grade level bees with the top 6-8 students per grade level advancing to the PACS Geography Bee each January. The top 4 students at each grade level at the PACS Geography Bee advance to the ACSI. The winner is eligible for the National Geography State Competition which begins with a test. If the student scores high enough they advance to the Official National Geography Georgia State Bee. Students who place in the top 6 at the ACSI Geography Bee may advance to the ACSI SE region Geography Bee.

Math Olympics

Students in grades 3-8 compete at the grade level on both Math Computation and Reasoning Tests. The top 3 students in each area at each grade advance to the ACSI Math Olympics. The top 5 students at the ACSI event in both tests receive awards.

American Scholastic Mathematics Association (AMSA)

Students in grades 8-9 compete in a series of 6 Math tests each school year. The top individual scorer from the school is recognized by AMSA.

Students in grades 10-12 compete in a series of 6 Math tests each school year. The top individual scorer from the school is recognized by AMSA.

High School Math Team

Students in grades 9-12 are eligible to compete with the Prince Avenue Math Team. The team usually competes at 2 or 3 events each year. These events are usually held at local colleges and universities such as UGA.

Academic Teams

Elementary Academic Team

Students in grades 4 and 5 are eligible to compete with the Prince Avenue Elementary Academic Team. Elementary students compete at the annual Cherry Blossom tournament in Macon each March. Students also compete in online academic competitions and in the Georgia Christian School league as part of the middle school event.

Middle School Academic Team

Students in grades 6-8 are eligible to compete with the Prince Avenue Middle School Academic Team. The Prince Avenue Middle School team plays regularly in the Georgia Christian School League. Prince Avenue also competes in the Professional Association of Georgia Educators (PAGE) state series each year and at the Georgia Academic Team Association (GATA) MS State tournament each March. Prince Avenue also fields teams at the middle school level in both the State Science and History Bowls. Individuals may also compete in the State History Bee for MS. Each year in March the 6th grade members compete at the Cherry Blossom tournament in Macon. Middle School players may occasionally play at the JV level. The JV has competed in recent years at the National History Bowl and Bee in Washington DC in April. MS students also compete in online academic competitions.

JV Academic Team

Students in grades 9 and 10 are eligible to compete with the Prince Avenue JV Academic Team. Prince Avenue JV teams play regularly in the Georgia Christian School League. Prince Avenue also competes in the Georgia Academic Team Association (GATA) 1A JV State tournament each February. Prince Avenue also fields teams at the JV level History Bowl. Individuals may also compete in the State History Bee for JV. JV players regularly play at the Varsity level.

Varsity Academic Team

Students in grades 11 and 12 are eligible to compete with the Prince Avenue Varsity Academic Team. The Prince Avenue Varsity Academic Team plays regularly in the Georgia Christian School League. Prince Avenue also competes in the Georgia Academic Team Association (GATA) 1A Varsity State tournament each March. Prince Avenue also fields teams at the Varsity level Science and History Bowls. Individuals may also compete in the State History Bee and state US History Bee for JV. The Varsity has competed in recent years at the National History Bowl and Bee in Washington DC in April. In three of the past five years Prince Avenue has participated in WSB-TV Channel 2’s High Q televised event. Varsity players have also competed in online academic competitions.

Literary Meet

In the Georgia High School Association there are two competitions for Fine Arts student. These events are One Act Play and Literary. One Act Play competition is held in the fall, and Literary Competition is held in the early spring. Literary Competition includes boys and girls dramatic interpretation, boys and girls essay, boys and girls extemporaneous speaking, boys quartet, boys and girls solo, and girls trio. Students compete at the region level. First and second place winners compete at the state level. In the past years Prince Avenue has won the state competition in boys essay, girls solo, and girls trio.
