Discipleship

Grade Level Prayer Retreats

Each year, Prince Avenue Christian School has a Prayer Retreat for each grade level of the middle school. These prayer retreats are simply time off-campus where we can focus on spiritual issues and spend time together praying. Our goal is to encourage our students to focus on spiritual things and to begin to value the ministry of praying for the school and for one another. Generally, each prayer retreat will have a speaker who presents a central theme and small group discussions led by members of the senior class. Our Prayer Retreats have proven to be valuable times of helping our students grow as individual Christians and helping them develop unity as a class.

Community Ministry

Prince Avenue Christian School consistently looks for opportunities for the student body to minister to our community.  Ministry opportunities are organized through school organizations, clubs, and classes, and all students are encouraged to participate.  Some of these ministry opportunities are:

Fruit of the Spirit Awards

As part of the middle school initiative to be more like Christ in word and deed, each week, the middle schoolteachers submit names of students who have exemplified one of the Fruits of the Spirit—love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. These students are recognized during lunch on Fridays in front of the middle school student body. Every week a different Fruit of the Spirit is chosen. This provides an opportunity to acknowledge and commend students who are striving to live according to the example set forth in the Scriptures and also challenges others to strive to be more Christ-like as well.

Academic

Academic Competitions

Each middle school student at Prince Avenue will have the opportunity to participate in several academic competitions throughout the year with an opportunity to advance based on their performance. These often include competitions such as the A.C.S.I. Geography Bee, A.C.S.I. Spelling Bee, and Math Olympics.

Academic Team

Prince Avenue's Middle School Academic Team gives students an opportunity to glorify God through the use of their intellectual gifts and talents. Students participate as a team in academic competitions several times throughout each semester. These competitions help challenge students to pursue knowledge both in and out of the classroom.

Duke TIP Program

Each year, a select number of 7th grade students are given the opportunity to participate in the Duke University Talent Identification Program based on their superior achievement test scores.

The Duke University Talent Identification Program (Duke TIP) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to serving academically gifted and talented youth. Duke TIP works with students, their families, and educators to identify, recognize, challenge, engage, and help students reach their highest potential.

National Junior Honor Society

National Junior Honor Society is a national recognition program for middle school students who have excelled in academics, leadership, citizenship, character, and service.  It provides an outlet for students to use their God-given gifts to serve in the community and in the school.  Members pledge to maintain a high scholastic standing, to endeavor to be a Christ-like leader, and to give of themselves in service to others.  Service projects members have participated in during the school year include a toiletry goods drive for the Sparrow’s Nest homeless shelter; a canned food drive for Athens; letters to servicemen and women overseas; new-student ice cream social, and others.
