The Duke University Talent Identification Program (TIP) honored 13 Prince Avenue Christian School 7th grade students, recognizing their academic potential and talent, based on a qualifying score at or above the 95th percentile on standardized achievement testing.
As a Duke TIP nominee, students have the opportunity to take either the SAT or ACT test, designed for college-bound high school students, during their 7th grade year.
The Prince Avenue Christian School middle school students now have the opportunity to take a journalism course taught by English teachers Alice Trammell and Julie Evans. The class provides students with an understanding of new and feature writing, as well as newsletter layout and production.
As each edition of the newsletters are completed, they will be posted to the middle school section of the school website.
The National Art Honor Society at Prince Avenue Christian School recently presented a $2,000 donation to Mrs. Barbara Anderson of "A Bigger Vision" to support the organizations efforts to feed the hungry.
Members of the National Art Honor Society participated in this special ministry opportunity by creating pottery bowls and filling them with goodies to auction at the school as a part of the Empty Bowls program. The $2,000 was raised in the one-day auction.
Update: Sam Kennon placed second in the state Literary Meet in Extemporaneous Speaking. Ward Evans place fourth overall in the essay competition.
Prince Avenue Christian High School students competed in the GHSA Literary Meet at Rabun Gap on Tuesday, February 26. Sam Kennon placed second in the region in Extemporaneous Speaking competition and Ward Evans was second in Essay Writing. Both advance to the state meet.
Prince Avenue Christian School will host several Open Houses for Prospective Families in the next several months. Interested families can register to attend (though registration is not a requirement.)
The Open House events will be held on Thursday, January 17 at 9:00 am and 6:00 pm, Tuesday, February 12 at 9:00 am. and Tuesday, May 7 at 9:00 am. Information sessions will be held at 9:15 am in the Media Center, followed by campus tours. The evening information session on January 17 will be at 6:15 pm.
