AP Class Consent
Advanced Placement (AP) classes provide students with the opportunity to take advanced honors level coursework which may result in earning college credits. To view a listing of AP Classes offered at PACS click here.

Benefits of taking an AP Class

  • Student will experience honors level curriculum and instructional methods.
  • Student can potentially earn college credit for this course while in high school, which can shorten the amount of time required to complete a college degree.
  • An AP class will challenge students with a rigorous experience similar to what he/she may expect in college. This will help students gain confidence and build study & test-taking skills.

Student Eligibility

  • Student must be enrolled at PACS as a sophomore, junior or senior.
  • Student must have a 3.0 overall GPA or higher.
  • Student should be on the "college prep" or "college prep with distinction" diploma track.
  • Student must have earned a final grade of an 88 or higher in the previous year/semester subject area course and meet any course pre-requisites.

PACS Grading for students enrolled in an AP Class

  • Students will receive 10 points added to their final grade in an AP class to account for the extra course rigor (e.g. 85 becomes 95). Also, one point is added to the GPA scale (e.g. 4.0 becomes 5.0)
  • These additional points are used when figuring in-house honors and awards.
