New High School and Middle School Principals Named
Statement from Head of School Danny Howell:
I am very happy to announce that Mr. Jesse Owens has been named the new high school principal, and Mrs. Becky Callaway has been hired as our new middle school principal.
Lt. Col. Seth Hathaway has accepted an opportunity to return to Riverside Military Academy as assistant head of school. The offer was initiated just a couple of weeks ago, and after careful consideration, Col. Hathaway has resigned his position as our high school principal, effective June 30th, in order to accept this new career opportunity. We appreciate the leadership that Col. Hathaway has provided our high school these past two years as he has worked to improve our academics, mentor our teachers, and disciple our students. We wish him God’s blessings as he begins work at Riverside Military. His wife, Tracy, will continue to teach at Prince Avenue, and Abby, Rebecca, and Jake will still be enrolled as students.
Mr. Owens is excited for the opportunity to move to our high school leadership position. He has built a very strong middle school program at Prince Avenue during the past four years serving as our school’s first middle school principal. Mr. Owens has a great reputation as an outstanding relational leader among the middle school students, parents, and faculty. He began his career at Prince Avenue Christian School as a high school teacher, and then he served as an administrative intern before being named the middle school principal in 2010. Mr. Owens has earned a Master’s degree in teaching and learning from Liberty University and a Bachelor of Science degree in child and family development from the University of Georgia. He has previously taught at Loganville High School and served as family care pastor at Free Life Church. Mr. Owens is certified as a Secondary School Principal by the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI).
Mrs. Callaway brings extensive administrative and teaching experience to the middle school principal position at Prince Avenue Christian School. She most recently served as a lower school principal for the past 13 years at Westminster Christian Academy in Watkinsville, Georgia. She has also been a classroom teacher at Westminster, Oconee County and Greene County school systems. As principal at Westminster, Mrs. Callaway was instrumental in establishing school-wide academic, student recognition, and co-curricular programs. She established a teacher evaluation system, and implemented intramural athletic competitions. She has served as a member of a SACS accreditation steering committee, district language arts adoption committee, served as a teacher support specialist and supervised student teachers. She has been enrolled in the PhD program in the Department of Elementary Education at the University of Georgia, and has earned a Master’s of education degree in middle grades language arts and math from the University of Georgia, and a Bachelor’s degree in education from the University of Georgia.
Please join me in welcoming Mrs. Callaway (bcallaway@princeave.org) to our Prince Avenue Christian School family, and give your best wishes and support to Mr. Owens (jowens@princeave.org) as he takes on this new role as high school principal. Please also send your blessings to Col. Hathaway (shathaway@princeave.org) as he begins his work at Riverside Military Academy.
