Prince Avenue Fine Arts Presents Pride and Prejudice
The Prince Avenue Christian School Fine Arts Department will present Pride and Prejudice on Thursday, October 8 at 7:00 pm and Saturday, October 10 at 2:00 pm and at 7:00 pm. All performances will be in the Prince Avenue Baptist Church Children’s Theatre.
The main characters of this production are Elizabeth Bennet played by senior Macy Frazier and Mr. Darcy played by junior Alex Harding. The story is set in England in the early 19th century.
PACS Drama teacher, Joe Strickland says the time period and vernacular of Jane Austen’s original novel are a particular challenge for the cast. “It takes a long time for modern teenagers to understand the social norms and etiquette of Victorian England. Understanding their own character’s objectives and desires while maintaining historical accuracy and consistency has led to many hair-pulling moments for our students.”
Mr. Strickland says, however, that the cast has risen to the challenge. “They have done an absolutely fantastic job of being dedicated to excellence and have once again really raised their own standard with this production.”
Mr. Strickland cites the fact that it has been a long time since PACS Fine Arts has produced a dramatic romance as the reason he chose this particular play. “While Pride and Prejudice does have some major elements of comedy, as affairs of the heart tend to lead to funny situations, it is mainly a dramatic play.”
