PACS Varsity Girls Tennis Team to Compete in State Tournament
On Monday, April 18th, the Prince Avenue Varsity Girls Tennis Team competed in the Area 2 Tournament at the Athens Tennis Center. PACS was seeded 2nd on the east side of the area. Therefore, the first match of the tournament was against Hebron Christian Academy, ranked 3rd on the west side of the area.
PACS #1 singles, McKay Higginbotham, lost in a heartbreaking third set. Both doubles teams, Lilly Henderson/McNeal Wilfong (#1 Doubles) and Lolly Titshaw/Mary Hamilton Bottoms (#2 Doubles) secured two wins, leaving the match up to #3 Singles, Dini DiCosty. Through Dini’s perseverance and skill, she won her match, leading to an overall victory for the Wolverines. At the end of the Area 2 Tournament, Prince Avenue Christian School ranked #4, securing a spot in the State Tournament.
The first round of the State Tournament will be on Tuesday, April 26th, with PACS playing at the Sandy Springs Tennis Center against the Atlanta International School at 4:00 pm.
PACS Varsity Girls Tennis coach, Katie Gamble, described a unified and dedicated team. “It’s been an incredible season with these ladies. This is an extremely talented group, however their compassion for each other, team mentality, and continued perseverance have resulted in such a season.”
Coach Gamble went on to say that over Spring Break, Hope Sheppard (who played on the #1 doubles team) broke her wrist snowboarding, leaving the team with a drastic change in their lineup at the end of the season. “Typically, a change in a doubles team at this point in the season is detrimental. However, McNeal Wilfong rose to the challenge to fill the spot in the #1 Doubles team.”
The PACS Varsity Girls Tennis line-up for the State Tournament is as follows:
