New Co-Curricular After School Program Begins This Fall
Prince Avenue Head of School, Colonel Seth Hathaway, has announced that a new co-curricular after school program will be implemented for lower and middle school students beginning in the 2016-17 school year.
The new after school program will shift the approach of the on-campus after school program from one that is childcare-based to one that is developmental in nature as PACS partners with the Young Women’s Christian Organization (YWCO) in the care of kindergarten through 8th grade students.
The YWCO program will offer a variety of structured social and academic opportunities including visual arts, athletic play, drama, and computer. Per parents’ request, YWCO counselors will also work with students to review agendas and complete homework assignments as a part of their activity rotation schedule.
PACS will employ twice as many adults as are currently employed, and many of the YWCO counselors are education or early childhood development majors who have clinical expertise in working with children. Accompanied by PACS Lower School Principal, Mrs. Becky Callaway, Col. Hathaway has carefully evaluated this program in action at other schools. “I am confident parents will be pleased with the quality and professionalism of this new service and the mentoring relationships the YWCO counselors will build with our students.”
The new program director is Mr. Sam Morris who is an early childhood education major at Liberty University. Sam and the YWCO counselors will meet the same employment criteria as the Prince Avenue staff and faculty including a professing belief in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, agreement with the school’s Christian Life Commitment and Biblical Morality Statements, and successful completion of a criminal background check and drug screening. As with all PACS employees, the counselors’ social media will reflect the expectations established for Prince Avenue employees.
PACS is pleased to offer this new service at the same price as the current program. Details on registering for this new co-curricular after school program will be provided in the weeks to come. If parents have additional questions, they should contact Lower School Principal Mrs. Becky Callaway, at bcallaway@princeave.org or call her at (678) 726-2325.
