Andrew Lloyd Webber’s The Phantom of the Opera captures the importance of mercy and humanity through a musical masterpiece. Viewers are transported through time to 1871 at the Paris Opera House, where the mysterious Phantom of the Opera resides in hiding. Deformed since birth, this mysterious “Opera Ghost” wreaks havoc in the lives of several opera house performers to include that of Christine Daaé. Enticed by his music, Christine shows the Phantom kindness and love, something he has never before experienced from the world. Written in 1986, The Phantom of the Opera continues to captivate audiences to this day by illustrating what true compassion and love is.
Prince Avenue Christian School students performing in this production are seniors Alex Harding as The Phantom and Isabelle Renn as Christine Daaé. Also featured are Jack Johnston as Raoul, Cailyn Bloodworth as Carlotta Giudicelli, Benjamin Hardwick as Ubaldo Piangi, Reid Baker as Monsieur Firmin, Thompson Sewell as Monsieur Andre, Macy Frazier as Madame Giry, and Chloe Ferguson as Meg Giry.
Drama teacher and director Joe Strickland encourages the PACS and Athens communities not to miss this production of the famous and beloved musical. “The Phantom of the Opera is one of the most successful shows in Broadway history, and our school will be the first performance of this show by any organization in the greater Athens area.”
In regards to the production’s meaning and significance, Mr. Strickland explains, “The Phantom of the Opera is a once in a lifetime opportunity. The show wrestles with the concept of what selfless love truly means. It challenges us to be empathetic for those around us who may be hurting.”
