PACS Seniors Recognized by National Merit Scholarship Program

Two students in the Prince Avenue Christian School Class of 2018 were recently recognized by the National Merit Scholarship Program for their outstanding performance on the October 2016 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.

Emily Weaver was named a Semifinalist.  The daughter of Chris and Tracey Weaver, Emily will have the opportunity to continue in the competition for 7,500 National Merit Scholarships worth approximately 33 million dollars that will be offered next spring.  A Semifinalist must have an outstanding academic record throughout high school, be endorsed and recommended by a high school official, write an essay, and earn SAT scores that confirm the student’s earlier performance on the qualifying test. 

Luke Wells was named a Commended Student. Luke is the son of Thomas and Amy Wells.  More than two-thirds of the approximately 50,000 high scorers on the PSAT/NMSQT receive Letters of Commendation in recognition of their outstanding academic promise.   Although Commended Students do not continue in the competition for National Merit Scholarships, some of these students do become candidates for special scholarships sponsored by corporations and businesses.

High school students enter the National Merit Program by taking the PSAT/NMSQT.  Approximately 1.4 million students enter the program and only 50,000 qualify.
