Varsity Basketball Teams Conclude Seasons With State Tournament Play
Both Girls and Boys Wolverine Varsity Basketball teams concluded their seasons with showings in both the GHSA Region 8-A Private Tournament and the GHSA Private-A State Tournament.
The boys competed in the semi-final round of the Region Tournament and also competed in the 1st Round of State Tournament play. Senior Will Todd was named Second Team All-Region while seniors Elijah Hynes and Mack Simmons and junior Andrew Cheek received Honorable Mention.
Head Coach Will Cantrell complemented his team's effort and perseverance this season. “We had a tremendous year of growth both as individuals and as a team. Not having all of our players at the beginning of the year forced other individuals to take on more leadership and responsibility than maybe they were expecting. However, it allowed them to gain confidence in themselves and the things they can accomplish when faced with unexpected situations. Record-wise, we had our third straight winning year as well as our third straight trip to the state tournament, which I believe is a first for PACS Boys Basketball. Above all else, the boys, Coach Jones, and I developed amazing relationships with each other that will last a lifetime.”
The Lady Wolverines played in the Region 8-A Championship game placing second in region. They also advanced in State Tournament play to the Sweet Sixteen. Seniors Madison Britt and Janie Henderson were named Second-Team All-Region while sophomore Karlee Armstrong received Honorable Mention.
Head Coach Richard Ricketts said of the Lady Wolverines, “This year’s Lady Wolverine basketball team proved to be one of the most memorable teams I have ever coached. They played in the sweet sixteen and region championship for the third straight year. The beginning of our season was tough and even tumultuous at times. They persevered, worked hard, came together as a team, and got so much better. As a coach, you can’t ask for more. It is very rewarding to see kids do this and be a part of it.”
