Wolverines are Back-to-Back State Football Champions
The Prince Avenue Christian School Varsity Football team made school history winning the Georgia High School Association Class A | Division 1 State Championship for the second year in a row and making the Wolverines state champions for three of the last four seasons.
The Wolverines defeated the Swainsboro High School Tigers 49 – 32 in a hard-fought game on December 11th at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta. Prince Athletic Director Richard Ricketts explains his admiration for the football team, coaches, and school community. “I am always amazed with how well our kids execute and play. Most people will never know how much time and effort is required to produce the quality of play that our team brings to the field. I am also very proud of our school community, cheerleaders, and band for the support they gave our team.”
During the game, Wolverine players and fans were excited to celebrate senior quarterback Aaron Philo who made history when he broke the Georgia high school record for most career passing yards surpassing the record previously held by Trevor Lawrence. Aaron also tied the state record for number of touchdowns in a single season. Head Coach Greg Vandagriff describes Aaron’s accomplishment as unbelievable. “The fact that Aaron broke the state career passing record in only three seasons as the starter is amazing. It could not happen to a better young man, and we look forward to watching him at the next level.”
