Senior Mission Trip to Costa Rica 2025 – Daily Updates
LOCAL MISSIONS
During senior mission week, a group of seniors volunteered their time and efforts to partner with local agencies and serve the community. Students worked at FISH Monroe thrift store and food pantry, Chosen for Life Ministries in Watkinsville, and The Bigger Vision of Athens community shelter. Students organized donations, packed meals, and learned more about the important role these agencies play in our community.
WEDNESDAY, MARCH 12TH
Today our students were able to immerse themselves in the culture of Costa Rica by visiting a local market and fruit stand. Students also got to visit a local coffee plantation. The highlight of the day was a zipline adventure through the rainforest. It truly was an unforgettable experience for our students, and a fantastic way for them to close out their time together in Costa Rica.
Pray that the time we have spent together over the last four days will have bonded
our senior class even closer and will have changed their lives!
Pray also for safe travels tomorrow as we begin the journey home.
TUESDAY, MARCH 11TH
Today was our last day in Pavas. Although we were disappointed that our time in Pavas was cut short, we still completed our four house-builds and presented the houses to the families. We are thankful that Joshua Expeditions will complete the jobs of furnishing the houses with items each family needs and stocking their pantries with several months of food. As we presented the houses to the families today, we also clearly shared the Gospel. It was difficult to say goodbye to the sweet children at VBS.
Please pray that our time in Pavas will have firmly planted the seeds of the Gospel
and make an everlasting change.
Pray also that this time will have been highly influential in the lives of our students.
MONDAY, MARCH 10TH
VBS today at the church has been amazing! It is so great to see our students interact with these children and teach them the life-giving words of the Gospel. Our four house-builds are also coming along nicely as roofs were added today. All four building locations are practically done with their builds and will simply have some of the finer details to complete tomorrow.
Pray that we will finish the houses in a timely manner and pray
for the families that will take occupancy of these houses tomorrow.
Pray specifically for the Gospel presentations that will happen at each house-build location.
SUNDAY, MARCH 9TH
What a great day of ministry for our Seniors! We began our four house-build projects today in the area of Pavas. Students eagerly got to work, and it showed! The construction is beginning to take shape. We also had our first VBS session at the local church. It was wonderful to see our seniors interact and play games with children they have never met.
Pray for excellent gospel conversations that will happen between our students,
the house-building workers, and the children at the church over the next several days.
SATURDAY, MARCH 8TH
After a very early start, we have arrived in Costa Rica. At the airport, we were met by our two wonderful Joshua Expedition Guides, Spencer and Gherzon. This is our fourth year working with Spencer, and our school has developed a strong friendship with him. They will both be with us all week and be our primary translators. We were able to get settled into our hotel this afternoon after getting to see a small portion of the city. Our students are tired and looking forward to a good night’s rest.
Please pray for our students to rest well tonight
so they can best minister to those they will meet tomorrow.
