The 2024-2025 Prince yearbook staff recently presented the 43rd edition of the Koinonia to the Prince student body. This year’s yearbook was dedicated to two Prince faculty members – middle school Spanish teacher Betsy Phillips and high school history teacher Karen Barrett.
Karen Barrett has been teaching history for 26 years, the last seven of which have been at Prince. She has taught Advanced Placement (AP) United States History, AP European History, AP Government, and AP Human Geography and has also served as the department head, where she helped realign the history curriculum at Prince. Mrs. Barrett has two children, both of whom are Prince graduates. – Carrie (’99), who is also a high school teacher at Prince, and Zach (’02), who is a lieutenant with the Walton County Sheriff’s Office. In addition, Mrs. Barrett has three grandchildren who are current students at Prince. Although she holds her students to a high standard, Mrs. Barrett inspires a love of history in her students, making the past relevant to their educational experience.
Betsy Phillips has served in various leadership, service, and teaching roles in local churches, on the mission field, and in Christian schools for more than 30 years. She has most recently taught middle school Spanish for the last five years at Prince and is retiring after this school year. Mrs. Phillips considers teaching middle school an amusing but also inspiring adventure.
The theme of this year’s yearbook is “The Good News”, which recognizes the human need to share stories and celebrate the progress and development surrounding Prince campus life. The phrase “good news” is a direct translation of the Greek word evangelion and refers to the news of salvation through Jesus Christ. This year’s yearbook editor is senior Preston Edmonds, and the yearbook advisor is Lizzie Hudlow.
