From Wolverine to Redcoat: Prince Graduate Achieves Lifelong Dream
Written by: Camden Spires (Prince junior)
From the halls of Prince Avenue Christian School to the hedges of Sanford Stadium, Prince alumna Jenifer Dunn (Class of 2025) will play her flute and piccolo with the famous Redcoat Marching Band. Jenifer is the third Prince graduate to be selected to be a part of this impressive band.
As a student at Prince since second grade, Jenifer could not have predicted becoming a part of one of the most prestigious marching bands in the country. During her time in the Prince Bands, Jenifer was selected for District and State Honor Band, All-State Band, and the Governor’s Honor Program.
Jenifer worked diligently during her time at Prince, learning valuable skills in time management, music, and how to be a light for God. She expressed her gratitude for her inspiring band teachers at Prince, naming retired band director Mr. Miles Adams and current band director Mr. Gerald Dailey for their guidance and passion for music and teaching, inspiring her to pursue both.
Jenifer explains that she is adjusting to the challenges of the Redcoat Band. “While it’s not easy, I have started to feel at home; the people around me are patient and have helped me to look and feel like a true Redcoat.” With this supportive community, Jenifer says there is no challenge that she has to face alone. “I am excited for my first game where I’ll get to march on the field, perform my first halftime show, and partake in my first Dawg Walk as part of the band.”
For current Prince students, Jenifer shares some words of wisdom: “Remain true to who you are and never let others influence how you represent God. In all the little things, show others God’s light. Even if it is just giving a smile to someone you’re passing by on the sidewalk.”
