Congressional Student Programs available for students
STUDENT PROGRAMS:
CONGRESSIONAL APP CHALLENGE
The Congressional App Challenge allows students to compete with their peers by creating a software application,
or “app,” for the internet, personal computer, tablet, mobile device, or other platform of their choice. The winning
app is featured on the U.S. House of Representatives’ website, displayed in a U.S. Capitol exhibit, and demoed in
Washington, D.C. at the annual House of Code, the most prestigious day in student stem!
SERVICE ACADEMY NOMINATIONS
Each year, Members of Congress nominate exceptional young Georgians to our nation’s service academies. These
are premiere institutions, designed to educate, train, and inspire the next generation of military officers. If you’re
interested in learning more, plan to attend our Service Academy Day, an event that brings together representatives from the U.S. Military, Naval, Coast Guard, Merchant Marine, and Air Force academies.
CONGRESSIONAL ART COMPETITION
Each spring, Members of the U.S. House of Representatives sponsor a nation-wide high school arts competition.
The winning artwork will hang in the Cannon Tunnel of the U.S. Capitol for one year. Every day, Members of Congress, distinguished visitors, and tens of thousands of tourists – from the United States and abroad – walk
through the tunnel and admire the artwork. Additionally, the winning artist will receive a trip to Washington,
D.C. to attend a reception with other student winners from across the nation.
THE CONGRESSIONAL AWARD
The Congressional Award is the highest Congressional honor for America’s youth. A young person is not selected
for the award—he or she earns it. Participants set goals in the areas of Voluntary Public Service, Personal Development, Physical Fitness, and Expedition/Exploration. Earning the Award is a fun way to get more involved in
something you already enjoy (ex. Boys Scouts, 4-H, and American Red Cross) or you’d like to try for the first time.
