New Faculty and Teaching Changes Announced
New faculty and staff will be joining the ministry of Prince Avenue Christian School for the 2010-11 academic year, working to educate over 700 students who will be enrolled in the school in preschool through twelfth grades. Other teachers and staff will be taking on new responsibilities as the new year begins in August.
Last year’s administrative intern Jesse Owens has been named the new Middle School Principal, while David Douglas continues as High School Principal, and will also oversee curriculum development as Academic Dean. Former front office receptionist Linda Haygood has moved with Owens and Douglas to the new Upper School offices in room 124 to serve as administrative assistant to the two principals.
Johnette Appleby will continue to work as administrative assistant to Lower School Principal Bettyann Collinsworth and Athletic Director Richard Ricketts. Beverly Shivar and Jill Brannen will be the front office receptionists. Director of Development Kim Brannon, Chaplain David Shivar, and Math Department Head and Technology Director Kendall Eley changed offices as well, with Brannon moving to a main office hallway office, while Shivar and Eley have offices next to the school’s weight room.
With a preschool enrollment that requires two classes this year, Kara Fulgham move up to kindergarten, joining Mandy Eley, Janet Colvard, and new teacher Teri Ware. Kay Haas and Cindy Hale will continue teaching preschool students. Nikki Franklin has joined the staff as a first grade teacher, working with Ginger Hayden and Natalie Houseman.
New teacher Julianne Dillard will teach second grade staff with Dawn Crane and Sue Nell Smeltzer, while Jessica Simon moves up to third grade with Anne Henderson and Lavonia Hardman. Jenny Aldin has moved to fourth grade, with Esther LaFay and Terri Holt, while Julie Evans returns to the fifth grade team with Tracy Clark and Gail Mauldin.
Kimberly Hardwick will teach elementary computer classes.
Aides for the lower school include Jennifer Amos, Karen Bryan, Lynne Bottoms, Lynn Graham, Tracie Ruff, Carol Simmons, and Lisa Simpson who will be the media center assistant.
Joining the middle school staff this year are physical education teachers Richard Bell and Lacy McClendon, who will also teach ninth grade PE. Also joining the middle school staff are Math teachers Brittney Dressel and Mary Elizabeth Voyles, Tracy Hathaway in Language Arts, and Joseph Strickland in Drama. Megan Hudson will be the art teacher for all upper school classes. This year, Jason Myers will teach middle school Bible, and Jane Tillitski will teach history. Renee Jackson moves to the middle school science and computer classes.
New high school teachers include Bible and History teacher John Howard, Math teacher Phyllis Brannon, and Science teacher Chance Jones. Ashley Banks will work with the educational support services program in addition to teach American Sign Language.
