Students Begin 2010 Homecoming Preparations
Prince Avenue Christian School students are ready to show their school spirit September 13 – 17, with a full week of activities scheduled to celebrate Homecoming 1010! This year’s theme is “The Panther Project…Operation 0-9-1-7-1-0”
The varsity cheerleaders have planned a fun-filled week of special dress up days and spirit contests to generate enthusiasm and excitement for the football team’s game against Glascock County on Friday, September 17. The annual Pre-Growl Block Party and Wolverine Growl pep rally on Thursday provides an opportunity for Prince families and alumni to join in the festivities.
All Prince Avenue families and friends are welcome to come to the annual Block Party on Thursday, September 16 from 6:15 – 7:15 for free pizza and fellowship on “Prince Avenue” (the road that cuts through our campus). Please bring sidewalk chalk to decorate this street to show Wolverine Spirit! The Wolverine Growl Pep Rally follows the block party, beginning at 7:30 pm in the Wolverine Gymnasium.
All students, from pre-kindergarten to the twelfth grades, are encouraged to participate in the Homecoming Dress-up Days. (For all dress up days…if you are not dressed appropriately and modestly you will have to change into something else. And as always, for the entire week remember the too rule – not too tight, not too loose, not too long, and not too short! The dress-up days are as follows:
Monday: “Injure the Panthers”…Fake Injury Day! Let’s show those panthers what they’ll look like after Operation 0-9-1-7-1-0 Friday night! Dress like a panther, or in orange & black, and add black eyes, cuts, bruises and band aids!
Tuesday: “Make the Panthers Cry”…Baby Day Waa Waa Waa! Those panthers will be crying like babies! Wear your footie pajamas, bibs, pacifiers and rattles. If you wear a diaper, you must have clothes under it.
Wednesday: “Put the Panthers to Sleep”…Pajama Day! As Coach Farriba would say…”Lullaby & Good Nite, we’ll beat those Panthers…AH – IGHT!” Modest pajamas ONLY. No short pj’s or flimsy gowns.
Thursday: “Put the Panthers Away”…Lock ‘em up Day! Let’s call the law to lock down them sorry panthers!!! Dress as policeman, FBI agents, detectives, animal control officers, etc. (No weapons of any kind are permitted at school)
Friday: Mission Accomplished, Wolverines Prevail! Navy Blue and Gold spirit day guidelines or Class Homecoming T-shirt may be worn.
(*These are just suggestions; students can be creative and come up with other ideas, but please stick to the theme. Students who do not dress according to the theme of the day cannot just wear Spirit day attire. It they are not dressed for the theme of the day, they must wear their regular school uniforms.)
Upper School students in sixth through twelfth grades will participate in several competitions throughout the week, and the class who earns the most points in the competition will be awarded the Spirit Stick. The competitions include:
Door Banner Contest: The Cheerleaders will supply each sixth through twelfth grade class with banner paper, and the class will design a banner according to the Homecoming theme “The Panther Project…Operation 0-9-1-7-1-0. The banners must be displayed outside the class sponsor’s classroom by 4:00 pm on Thursday, September 16.
Hall Decorations: The sixth through twelfth grade classes have been assigned a hall to decorate on Monday night September 13, starting at 6:00pm. The hall assignments are as follows: 6, 7, and 8th grades are to decorate the main entrance hall and lunchroom; Seniors & Sophomores, the Blue/Gold hall; and Juniors & Freshmen, the gold stripped hall. The decorations should highlight school and not class spirit. All decorations must be taken down and disposed of by the end of school Friday, September 17, by 3:00 pm.
Class Spirit Cheers: Each sixth through twelfth grade class must come up with a 5-minute or less spirit cheer and be prepared to perform it at the Wolverine Growl. No lights can be turned out during cheer; only minimal props are allowed. Music must be on a CD and labeled with the track number and must be approved by Mr. Shivar by Tuesday, Sept. 14.
