The BIG Thank YOU!
Update: The Interact Club collected 375 letters, which will be opened by active duty military personnel on Thanksgiving!
The halls of Prince Avenue Christian School are filled with enthusiastic posters and signs that refer to “The Big Thank You”. A large “The Big Thank You Letter Box” greets visitors in the Middle and High School reception office.
The Prince Avenue Christian School Interact Club initiated a project to get our students to join the national drive to provide letters to every deployed military personnel who is stationed overseas. Prince Avenue’s “The BIG Thank You” campaign supports our troops by sending them mail from Prince Avenue students to be opened on Thanksgiving Day.
Through the influence of our high school principal Lt. Colonel Seth Hathaway, the PACS Interact Club learned that deployed soldiers receive mail sporadically but most soldiers do not receive any mail on a regular basis…and some never. The members of Interact, a student organization designed to serve our community and involve the student body in mission opportunities and projects, wanted to ensure that American soldiers are remembered and thanked on the national day of Thanksgiving.
The Prince Avenue “BIG Thank You” campaign encourages all students at all grade levels to write letters of gratitude to soldiers who will not be with their families this Thanksgiving. The letters will be sent through a contact of Lt. Colonel Hathaway, and the soldiers will receive these letters at mail call on Thanksgiving Day.
Students can drop their letters into the “Big Thank You” campaign box located in the middle and high school office.
Letters must be handwritten, and students are encouraged to include a heartfelt message of thanks along with Bible verses for encouragement. Students are encouraged to draw, color, and add their own personal touches, but should not use any glitter, glue or other product that may smear across the paper.
The letters can be addressed “Dear Solider”, “Dear American Soldier”, “Dear Hero”, etc. If students would like to include a return address, they are asked to include the school’s address (2201 Ruth Jackson Rd. Bogart, GA 30622).
Letters will be accepted until Friday, November 8th.
