Bill Ricketts’ Message First in Distinguished Speaker Series
Bill Ricketts, pastor of Prince Avenue Baptist Church spoke in chapel as the first Distinguished Speaker of the 2015-16 school year. The Distinguished Speaker Series is a pillar of the PACS Christian Character Development Program that was instituted for the purpose of educating and developing the next generation of leaders for Christ by teaching biblical values that promote the following: personal integrity, ethical decision making, sound judgment, social responsibility, accountability within a body of believers, and acts of service.
Brother Bill reminded students that they will make choices throughout their lives, and their choices will determine the legacy that they leave. He challenged students to learn from mistakes rather than make excuses, to seek wise counsel, and to remain teachable. He explained that Christians who leave a legacy maintain a good attitude, show gratitude, make wise choices, and develop strong work habits. Brother Bill encouraged students to imagine life as a blank piece of paper, sign it at the bottom, and allow God to fill in the plan.
Students will follow up Brother Bill’s message with small student discussion groups that are led by members of the high school faculty. Discussion guides constructed from the main teaching points will be used by the teachers to facilitate and encourage students to share their impressions and opinions on the topics presented.
