Lady Wolverine, Jordyn Smith, Achieves More Than 1000 Career Points
The 2015-16 Prince Avenue Girls Basketball Season has been especially memorable for one PACS senior, Jordyn Smith. It was during this season that Jordyn exceeded 1000 career points for the Lady Wolverines.
When asked about her 1000 points, Jordyn, known for dodging the spotlight, minimized her achievement. “I had no idea that I would even come close to having the opportunity to hit 1000 points. The team comes first, and all the scoring that I have done throughout the years was solely for my team.” Jordyn does, however, admit the time and dedication it takes to be successful in the game. “It took countless hours spent in the gym during the week and even weekends. It was worth it though. And I can honestly say that I never would have been able to reach this goal without the help and support of my teammates and coaches.”
It is this attitude and work ethic that makes Jordyn a valued player for the Lady Wolverines. Head Coach, Katie Gilbert, describes her top scorer with admiration. “There is no one more deserving of this honor than Jordyn. Every day, whether in practice or a game, Jordyn has been a leader. She continually sets the tone with her competitive spirit and intense work ethic. What most people do not realize about Jordyn is she has led our team in scoring every season since her freshman year; the reason people do not know that is Jordyn is selfless and puts her team first.” Coach Gilbert emphasizes Jordyn’s integrity as her strongest asset. “Jordyn is a fantastic athlete, but more importantly she is an amazing young lady. Jordyn is a blessing to coach and has been a blessing to Prince Avenue.”
Jordyn has not yet settled on her college plans nor is she certain that she will continue her athletic career in college. She does, however, plan to put her athletic skills to use as she pursues a degree in sports medicine.
