PACS Lower School Holds Fall Sports Pep Rally
On Friday afternoon, before homecoming week festivities had even arrived, the Prince Avenue Christian School Wolverine Gymnasium was alive with sights and sounds. Excited lower school children enthusiastically filed into the bleachers by grade level and launched into spirit-filled cheers. Meanwhile, parents and grandparents packed the other side of the gym, ready to celebrate the youngest Wolverines and the many fall activities that these PACS students have enjoyed this season.
This exciting event was the first ever PACS lower school fall sports pep rally. Planned by parents in the Parent Teacher Fellowship (PTF) and supported by the PACS Administration, Faculty, and Staff, this event showcased one of the most unique qualities of PACS – a tight knit community among students of all ages along with supportive parents, grandparents, faculty, staff and friends in a Christian environment. As high school and middle school students assisted in the necessary details, the lower school pep rally recognized and celebrated lower school football teams, cross country runners, cheerleaders, twirlers, and Lil’ Wolves Club members.
Lower school Principal, Becky Callaway was not only supportive of this effort, she helped plan and organize the event, even surprising the students by participating in a silly skit and song. “Making fond memories is as much a part of the lower school experience as academic and spiritual development. Fun days like this enhance learning for all of our students, boosting school spirit and giving them something to get excited about!”
And students were definitely excited. They celebrated their classmates as football players ran through the official Prince Avenue football banner with Winston the Wolverine, cheerleaders led cheers and did stunts, and twirlers performed routines. Students also cheered on their teachers and Head of School, Col. Seth Hathaway, in a life-size game of “Hungry, Hungry Hippo”. Kindergarten teacher Mandy Eley, willingly participated in the raucous game involving rolling platforms, milk crates, and balls. “It was a great day to be a Wolverine. The pep rally was a wonderful opportunity to come together as a school family and build community and school spirit. It is an honor and a privilege to be a part of the ministry of Prince Avenue Christian School.”
PTF organizers were very pleased with the pep-rally and the response from students and parents. Terri Henderson explained, “We have more than 140 lower school students participating in our fall sports program and close to 200 lower school students participating in our PTF sponsored Lil’ Wolves Club. As a parent, it was a blast watching all our students and teachers cheer, laugh, and just have a good time together. The smiles and laughs that filled our gym were priceless.”
