Senior Brad Bennett Performing with Georgia All-State Jazz Band
Prince Avenue senior Brad Bennett will be performing with the 2017 Georgia All-State Jazz Band this weekend at the Athens Classic Center.
Brad auditioned at the district level in October and scored a 96 which qualified him to compete at the state level. He auditioned at the state level in December against 28 other jazz drummers from throughout Georgia.
Brad will rehearse with the band Thursday and Friday, then perform for the final concert of the Georgia Music Educators Association state conference Saturday morning at 11:15 in the Classic Center Theatre. That performance is open to the public and anyone may attend. The 2017 band will be conducted by Ron Carter, Director of Jazz Studies at the University of Illinois and one of the finest jazz educators in the nation.
PACS Band Director, Miles Adams, describes Brad’s accomplishment with great enthusiasm. “Brad made the highest score of the day at the state audition, meaning he is the best high school jazz drummer in Georgia.” Mr. Adams also expresses his appreciation for Brad’s contribution to Fine Arts at PACS. “Brad has contributed greatly to our band, drum-line, and Praise Team during his years at Prince. This will most likely be the highlight of his musical experiences here.”
