PACS Empty Bowls Auction Raises Money for Homeless Shelter

The Prince Avenue National Art Honor Society's 5th Annual Empty Bowls silent auction was held Friday, January 27th.  PACS high school NAHS members, along with faculty members, created 50 beautiful handmade pottery bowls and filled the bowls with goods.  The firing of the bowls was made possible by the installation of a permanent on-campus kiln room through a gift provided by ETL Construction.  A variety of themes were presented from coffee, edible goodies, and small potted plants to bowls sponsored by local stores and boutiques. 

Because of the generosity of the PACS community, this year’s auction raised approximately $2700.  All proceeds from the auction will go directly to A Bigger Vision, a local Athens-area homeless shelter. The shelter plans to put the money toward the purchase of an industrial size washing machine, as many of the residents wash their clothes when they stay the night.  Students will present the money to A Bigger Vision on a Monday night when they will participate in serving a meal to the residents.  

PACS High School Visual Arts teacher Meghan Hudson is the organizer of Empty Bowls at PACS and sees the program as an opportunity for PACS students to use their talents to benefit others and glorify God.  “We are excited for this opportunity each year.  Serving meals at the shelter helps us to see why Empty Bowls is so important.”
