PACS Awarded Walton EMC School Empowerment Grant
Prince Avenue Christian School was recently awarded the Walton EMC School Empowerment Grant. This grant is the STEM Lab Establishment/Science Curriculum Grant and will benefit the lower school with science equipment and supplies such as microscopes, balance scales, and other lab tools as well as supplies needed for projects to enrich studies in earth, physical, and life science. These resources will provide students more exploratory and discovery based learning opportunities. In addition, the school will be able to incorporate science Subject Matter Expert learning facilitators, individuals who provide a student centric learning experience to expand and enrich students’ understanding of science. All of these new resources will complement the school’s current science curriculum.
PACS Lower School Principal Becky Callaway, who completed the application for the $6,610 grant, expressed her enthusiasm for the positive effects these funds will have on the PACS lower school science curriculum. “The receipt of this generous gift is timely as it will serve to boost the school’s long-range plans of establishing a fully equipped and staffed science lab dedicated to use by students in kindergarten through fifth grade. These plans are being phased in gradually, as evidenced with the lab activities in which students are engaged twice per quarter this year under the direction of Dr. Amy Shiver, a Prince parent volunteer.”
Walton EMC’s School Empowerment Grant program is available to schools within their 10 county service area with the grant funds coming from unclaimed capital credits. Those in attendance to present the grant to Mrs. Callaway were Jeff Paul (Member Services Director), Connie Bentley (Financial Analyst and PACS grandparent), Savannah Peters (Communications Coordinator and PACS parent), and Robert Rentfrow (Senior VP and PACS grandparent).
