Weaver Named STAR Student
Prince Avenue senior Emily Weaver has been named the 2017-18 STAR Student for Prince Avenue Christian School, scoring the highest on one sitting of the SAT test this year. She selected Science teacher Dale Autry as her STAR Teacher. Both Emily and Mr. Autry were honored at the Oconee County Chamber of Commerce STAR Student Breakfast.
Emily is the daughter of Chris and Tracey Weaver and has attended PACS for seven years. Her notable achievements include being the top of her class for the past six years, being a National Merit Semifinalist, receiving the Georgia Certificate of Merit, and being named the Rotary Club Student of the Semester. Emily is a talented member of the PACS concert and jazz bands and is active on the PACS Academic Team. Emily is also a member of the National Honor’s Society, Beta Club, and Interact Club. Emily attends Prince Avenue Baptist Church where she is active in the youth group.
When asked about her choice of STAR Teacher, Emily explained, “Mr. Autry has helped to mold me into the student that I am today. He has taught me critical thinking, how to plan labs, how to work well with a group of students, and responsibility in my school work.”
Dale Autry has been teaching for over 22 years with the last six being at PACS. He is currently teaching Physics and Physical Science. Mr. Autry describes Emily as one of the finest students he has ever taught. “She is supremely intelligent and hard-working, but more important is her obvious faith and character. The best thing about having Emily in class is her selfless attitude, which seems to compel her to constantly help and encourage everyone around her.”
Emily expresses that her time at PACS has significantly influenced her academic accomplishments as well as her spiritual and social life. “Prince Avenue has helped me to grow spiritually and has challenged me academically, but I’ve also had a lot of fun and made some great friends. I’ve also enjoyed all of my extracurricular activities.”
After graduation, Emily plans to attend Clemson University and major in Engineering.
