2018 Yearbook Dedication Presented to Appleby and Phillips
Each year, the Prince Avenue Yearbook Staff chooses members of the faculty and staff to honor as the recipient of the Yearbook Dedication. This year’s Koinonia is dedicated to Administrative Assistant to the Athletic Director Johnette Appleby and retiring English teacher Jimmy Phillips.
Johnette Appleby has worked at Prince Avenue for 18 years. She has two children who graduated from Prince, Stephen in 2009 and Kaitlin in 2013. Johnette has enjoyed the relationships she has built with the other staff on the Administrative Hall and greatly appreciates the Christian environment at Prince. Athletic Director Richard Ricketts explains that Johnette’s contributions to the Athletic Department are significant. “She is one the hardest working, conscientious people I have ever worked with. She is always willing to go above and beyond to do whatever she can to help make our school run smoothly. Our school, and especially our Athletic Department, would not be what they are today without her service.”
Jimmy Phillips has taught school for 46 years with the last 10 of those being at Prince Avenue. At Prince, he has taught American Literature and Advanced Placement Language and Composition. He has also served as the head coach for Boys Varsity Golf, taking the team to the state level for the past five years and has been the assistant coach for Boys Varsity Basketball. Mr. Phillips has been a been a beloved teacher at Prince and will be greatly missed by students and colleagues as well. One student explained, “Mr. Phillips constantly challenged us always helping us to be the best writers we could be,” explained one graduating senior who credits Mr. Phillips for making her the writer she is today. “He poured into us more than just his knowledge of English. He told us stories about his life. I’m so thankful to have had the opportunity to be in his class.”
