Lee Named 2018-19 STAR Student

Prince Avenue senior Danny Lee has been named the 2018-19 STAR Student for Prince Avenue Christian School, scoring the highest on one sitting of the SAT test this year.  He selected English teacher Beth Sadler as his STAR Teacher.  Both Danny and Miss Sadler were honored at the Oconee County Chamber of Commerce STAR Student Breakfast.

Danny is the son of Sang Yeon Lee and Sunhee Cho and has attended PACS for 14 years.  His notable achievements include being awarded the Junior Leadership Award for his work with a Korean class as well as the Wolverine Scholar award for being the top of his class.  Danny is a member of the National Honors Society, Beta Club, and Interact Club.  He participates in the PACS Pep Band and is a member of the PACS Varsity Academic Team.  Danny attends Athens Korean Baptist Church where he works as an intern for the children’s class for ages 3 – 5. 

When asked about his choice of STAR Teacher, Danny explains that Miss Sadler relates to his love of literature and has helped him prepare for college. “Miss Sadler helped me hone my writing skills as well as my critical thinking and reasoning skills. She helped me with college essays and also wrote my teacher recommendation letters for college.”

Beth Sadler has been teaching for over ten years with the last three being at PACS.  She is currently teaching AP Language and Composition, as well as the Dual Enrollment English courses.  Miss Sadler describes Danny as a student who is well-rounded displaying both intelligence and a relatable sense of humor.  “Danny’s reputation for intellectual curiosity precedes him. I was told by several of his previous teachers to expect a student who thrived on being challenged, and that has most certainly been the case. But I’ve also gotten to know Danny outside of the classroom as his academic team coach. Danny also has a great wit and has been a strong leader for our team for the last two years.”

Danny appreciates that Prince Avenue’s tight-knit community and smaller class sizes have allowed him to get to know his peers and their ideas more effectively.  He describes the faculty as committed. “They always go above and beyond to make sure every student succeeds to the best of his or her abilities. Any time I struggled academically or spiritually, my teachers and peers were always there for me.”

Danny has not settled on his post-secondary plans but is considering studying Sociology at the University of Georgia.
