Third-Grade Students Donate Handmade Blankets
Prince third-grade students recently completed a Christmas project in which they donated six handmade blankets to local law enforcement to be used as comfort items for children in emergency or crisis situations.
With the help of a Prince grandmother who prepared materials ahead of time and taught students how to construct the blankets, students worked together to assemble the blankets.
Third-grade teacher Kimberly Howard explained that the project sparked an understanding in students that there are many children in difficult situations. “The children learn an awareness of others and to be thankful for what they have.”
The blankets were presented to Prince parents who work in law enforcement. Winder/Barrow police officers Lieutenant Rikki Banks and Sergeant John Yarbrough received the items from students. Lieutenant Banks is the mother of 8th-grader Mason Banks, and Sergeant Yarbrough is the father of 5th-grader Cale Yarbrough.
