Children’s Author, Barry Shettel, Reads to Students
Prince Avenue Christian School Media Center welcomed children’s author Barry Shettel on Monday, January 13th. Mr. Shettel, affectionately known as “Papabur”, is the father of one Prince graduate and the grandfather of three Prince graduates and one current Prince senior. He was formerly the youth pastor at Prince Avenue Baptist Church for 29 years and has embarked on writing and illustrating in his retirement years. Mr. Shettel has written four books, each about one of his six grandchildren, and has two more books in the works.
On Monday, Mr. Shettel read The Rhino in Weinstein’s Junkyard to Prince third-grade students of Mrs. Howard and Mrs. Zeagler. He explained to students the importance of creativity and showed how his “doodles” of drawings and artwork became the illustrations for his books. He also held a question and answer session.
Barry Shettel’s fun and delightful books can be checked out in the school Media Center and are also available for purchase locally at Ann Peden in Watkinsville. Mr. Shettel also has a website www.smallstuffink.com at which viewers can find out more about his work and read his blog.
