The mission statement of Prince Avenue Christian School is “to partner with Christian families to provide scripturally based discipleship while pursuing excellence in academics, fine arts, and athletics from a biblical worldview.” None of this mission would be possible without the highly qualified and extraordinarily talented, dedicated, and godly teachers who are hands-on with Prince students day in and day out.
In the spirit of recognizing the commitment and dedication of the faculty at PACS, each year the school recognizes individual teachers as the Colossians 3:23 Educators of the Year, nominated by their peers as remarkable and doing “everything as unto the Lord”. Kindergarten teacher Mallory Addison, middle school science teacher Robin Sosbee, and high school science teacher Carrie Owens are the 2023-2024 Prince Educators of the Year. Each received a crystal vase and a cash donation which are given each year by a generous and anonymous donor.
Mallory Addison has taught kindergarten at Prince for four years. Prior to teaching, Mrs. Addison worked as a child life specialist and a NICU social worker and spent some years staying home with her children. Mrs. Addison’s peers describe her as attentive to her students’ academic, emotional, and spiritual needs. “Her dedication extends beyond the classroom as she actively engages with parents, offering support, guidance, and regular communication to ensure a collaborative approach to each student’s development.”
Mrs. Addison believes that one of the strongest qualities of Prince is its culture which allows teachers to authentically connect with students and families, teaching at a high academic standard and pointing them to Jesus. “This is what I most value and what brings me joy every day when I come to work. I will never take for granted the privilege it is to partner with families and teach children about the Word of God in the school setting.”
Robin Sosbee has been at Prince for seven years and has taught Earth Science, Life Science, and College Prep Biology. Before Prince, Mrs. Sosbee taught in public education for 18 years. Mrs. Sosbee’s peers describe her as passionate about her content area. “Mrs. Sosbee puts in a great deal of time, effort, and planning to prepare for labs and classroom activities. She has a great blend of classroom discipline while also making things fun.”
Robin values that Prince has Christian values instilled in the academic curriculum. “It has been a joy to teach Life Science from a Christian perspective.” She also loves the family feeling of working at Prince. “It is like no other school that I have ever taught in. I look forward to coming to work every day and spending time with my students and co-workers.”
Carrie Owens has been at Prince for 12 years and has taught college prep, honors, and Advanced Placement Biology. Additionally, Mrs. Owens coaches the High School Academic Team and a 2nd grade basketball team and is the freshman class sponsor. Before coming to Prince, Mrs. Owens spent three years teaching in public school and stayed home with her children for a time. Mrs. Owens is described by her peers as a gifted communicator. “She uses her content knowledge, logic, and compassion to prepare students for life after graduation, making them secure in the knowledge of God’s Word.”
Mrs. Owens says she loves getting to know students and their families as well as the opportunity to teach science from a Biblical perspective. “My desire for PACS students is that they will have a deep affection for Jesus and that they will leave here with a firm foundation of Biblical knowledge to be effective in service for the Kingdom of God.”
