Prince Avenue Christian School senior Steven Skaggs was awarded a full, four-year Naval Reserve Officer Training (NROTC) scholarship and will attend the Georgia Institute of Technology in the fall of 2025. Four-year NROTC scholarships are exceedingly competitive, with thousands of high school seniors nationwide applying each year with an average selection rate of only seven percent. What makes NRTOC scholarships even more competitive is that the Department of Defense awards 85% of these scholarships to applicants who have chosen to major in engineering, science, or math. The scholarship includes 100% tuition and required fees, plus a generous stipend for books and a monthly stipend of $250-$300 while the student is enrolled in college. Scholarship recipients are referred to as “midshipmen” and wear a NROTC uniform when attending NROTC classes and participate in four to six weeks of active duty training each summer. Midshipmen who successfully complete all academic and military requirements at the end of four years are commissioned as ensigns in the Navy and immediately placed in leadership positions. Prince Avenue Christian School is proud to share that Steven Skaggs has earned the prestigious NROTC scholarship. Steven plans to major in computer science.
