Prince Fine Arts Receives Multiple Nominations for Shuler Awards
The cast and crew of the Prince Fine Arts production of Beauty and the Beast have been recognized for multiple categories by the prestigious Georgia High School Musical Theatre Awards, also known as the Shuler Awards. Fashioned after Broadway’s Tony Awards, the Shuler Hensley Awards program celebrates excellence in high school musical theatre. This year 39 schools from 17 counties participated. Prince received five nominations and four honorable mentions out of 16 categories.
The following students and faculty/staff members received nominations:
- For Best Choreography – senior Kaylor Jones
- For Sound – Matthew Smock – Prince production director
- For Costume – Lizze Hudlow – Prince high school English teacher
- For Scenic Design – Hannah Hunt – Prince fine arts teacher and production director, junior Natalie Schroeder, sophomores Dylan Capps and Kasey Eubanks, and freshman Bella Rosenthal
- For Best Overall Production – Entire Cast & Crew
The following students and faculty/staff members received honorable mentions:
- For Direction – Hannah Hunt
- For Technical Executions – Hannah Hunt and junior Grayson Casto
- For Featured Performer – Dylan Capps for his role as Lumière
- For Leading Actress – senior Claire Gann for her role as Belle
Senior Kaylor Jones also received two scholarships – The Orbit Arts Academy Broadway University Scholarship and the Samit and Mita Roy Scholarship.
The Shuler Awards ceremony will take place at the Cobb Energy Center on Thursday, April 20th at 8:00 pm and will be broadcast live on Georgia Public Broadcasting. Junior Naomi Gowder and freshman Daniel Schroeder will perform with the opening and closing student ensemble while juniors Gracyn Casto and Kyndall Iley will work on the tech crew.
Because of their nomination for “Best Overall Production”, the Prince cast and crew will perform “Be Our Guest” live during the Shuler Awards ceremony. Also, the winners for each category will be announced during the program.
Prince families and friends are encouraged to tune in and support Prince Fine Arts for this exciting event. Congratulations to the Prince Fine Arts Department for receiving this statewide recognition.
