Congressional Seminar Essay Contest for High School Students-win a free trip to Washington, D.C. June 17-23
From The National Society of Colonial Dames (Athens Town Committee)…
My name is Marian Block and I am a member of the National Society of Colonial Dames (Athens Town Committee) https://nscda.org/. I currently serve as the Patriotic Service chairman. I wanted to make you aware that the National Society of Colonial Dames provides a unique opportunity for high school students (sophomore, junior or senior) through an essay contest to win a trip to Washington, DC for seven days in our nation’s capital.
The essay topic for 2022-2023:
“Examine the U.S. Constitution as a whole and explain why you think it does or does not fully protect the Right to vote.”
The winner will receive an all expense paid trip to Washington, D.C. June 17- June 23, 2023. Winners from around the country will gather to have a special tour of our nation’s capital and the surrounding area, meet with Congressmen and other governmental officials, conduct a mock congress, and learn about how the U.S. government works.
Please encourage your students to participate. This contest is a terrific resume builder for college bound students. Contest rules, an application, a poster, and a brochure for the seminar experience are attached for your information. If your students have participated in the past, please note several rule changes that have taken place…
- The application form must be digitally filled out. In years past it could be hand-written, but not this year. (See attachment for all details)
- The majority of our students give us hard copies of their essay, but if an essay is digitally sent to us it must be sent as a PDF file. Directions are included in the “Rules, Information and Judging Criteria” application section.
- Teachers may submit up to 10 essays per classroom.
- Remember it is still a 750 word limit, typed, double spaced, 1 side only
- The students name and state should be on each page
Essays will be due to me, marianfblock@gmail.com, on Wednesday November 16, 2022 and winners should be announced around the end of February! We look forward to your participation in this program.
Again, see attached additional information giving further details about what this program is and who the “Dames” are.
