Leadership Opportunity-Boys and Girls State

Each summer since the 1930’s the American Legion hosts a Model Senate called Boys State or Girls State.  Students who are interested in seeking to gain admission to a Service Academy are strongly encouraged to attend one of these.  Boys and Girls State is a highly regarded program by military academies and highly selective institutions.  Boys State will be held June 18-24, 2017 at Riverside Military Academy and Girls State will be held June 11-16, 2017 at Georgia Southern University.  The purpose of this summer program is to provide  students with a simulation of the structure and operations of our state government.  They are eligible to “run” for offices, conduct legislative sessions, and learn more about various aspects of our courts and political systems.  This is a great program for students that want to increase their civic awareness as well as become better leaders.  

Boys & Girls must have completed their junior year of high school.

Those sites contain all the information about the program, the application forms, schedule of events, what they need to bring, etc.   You can also pick up a packet in the High School Office if you prefer a hard copy.
