Physical Education
The physical education program in Prince Avenue Christian’s Lower School is based upon the acquisition of Christ-like knowledge and skills that are the foundation for engaging in physical activity. The mission of Physical Education is to empower all students to sustain regular, lifelong physical activity as a foundation for a healthy, productive and fulfilling life. Physical Education is a sequential educational program. It is based on physical activities undertaken in an active, caring, supportive and non-threatening atmosphere in which every student is challenged and successful.

Elementary music at Prince Avenue is a 7-year program which lays the foundation of the fundamentals of music – proper singing, steady beat, basic rhythms, and notation – to move our students from simple songs to musicals, from classroom instruments to beginning band in order to prepare them for future musical growth and development.

Fifth grade Social Studies curriculum is American History based on a Biblical worldview. The students will study the three branches of government, types of maps, and the period in American History from the Civil War to the Cold War.

Using the Science Georgia Standards of Excellence, scientific inquiry and a variety of hands on learning experiences, student will be able to identify the causes of some of Earth’s surface features, explain the difference between a physical and a chemical change, investigate electricity and magnetism and the relationship between them, use scientific procedures to classify organisms, understand the difference between behaviors and traits, contrast the parts of animal and plant cells, and argue from evidence on how microorganisms can be beneficial or harmful to other organisms. Science will be taught from a Biblical worldview.
Spanish
Lower School Spanish covers the basics of both the spoken and written Spanish language. A creative and engaging curriculum covers fundamental vocabulary as well as introductory conversation. Classroom instruction involves the use of songs, visual aids, games, skits, scripted conversations and workbooks. The objectives of Lower School Spanish are as follows: to provide a beginning understanding of Spanish grammar and vocabulary, to encourage an enthusiasm for further study of a foreign language, and to introduce students to the cultures and customs of Spanish-speaking countries.

Physical Education
The physical education program in Prince Avenue Christian’s Lower School is based upon the acquisition of Christ-like knowledge and skills that are the foundation for engaging in physical activity. The mission of Physical Education is to empower all students to sustain regular, lifelong physical activity as a foundation for a healthy, productive and fulfilling life. Physical Education is a sequential educational program. It is based on physical activities undertaken in an active, caring, supportive and non-threatening atmosphere in which every student is challenged and successful.
Students will be expected to give maximum effort in these 4 areas: Listening to their Coach, encouraging their classmates/teammates, always being positive, and participating. These 4 areas make-up the acronym L-E-A-P to which all students should have maximum participation. Coaches are committed to providing a safe and positive learning environment in which all students achieve personal bests and success. The goal of the Lower School P.E. program here at Prince Avenue Christian is to guide young lives towards healthy and active futures in a way that honors God.
Art
Lower school Art at Prince Avenue exposes students to the world of art by introducing famous works of art, art movements, and a variety of different art materials from paint to clay to paper mache. We focus on incorporating the elements of art and principles of design into our daily projects. Students enjoy experiencing art critiques and discussing art from all over the world.
Music
Elementary music at Prince is a 7 year program which lays the foundation of the fundamentals of music – proper singing, steady beat, basic rhythms and notation – to move our students from simple songs to musicals, from classroom instruments to beginning band in order to prepare them for future musical growth and development.
Library
Students will read a story to coordinate with holidays, seasons, or Fifth Grade units of study. Topics that are introduced include: how to use a shelf-marker, book care rules, and how to determine if a book is fiction or non-fiction, story sequences, book arrangement on shelves, use of indexes in non-fiction books, guide words in dictionaries, parts of a book, Dewey Decimal System, call numbers, how to determine valid internet websites for research, how to access Galileo and how to locate AR book levels and point value for each book. The Fifth Grade meets with their reading buddies in Kindergarten twice each month during their library time.
Computer Keyboarding
Lower School Computer Lab strives to assist students, parents, and teachers navigate our digitally rich world. As the role of technology in schools evolves, our primary goal is to ensure all students have authentic and equitable opportunities to build 21st Century skills. It is critical for students to develop flexibility and independent problem solving skills regardless of the tool they are using. Our lab will focus on keyboarding skills as well as equipping our students to become responsible digital citizens.
